Queen Louise's Bridge spanning Peblingesø (Peblinge Lake, pebling was a student in a grammar school) is one fine bridge, and these old lamp posts are great. The bridge was built in 1885-1887 and named after King Frederik IX's Queen. It was designed by architect Vilhelm Dahlerup, who also designed the Dragon Lamps of a previous post. On the bridge are 8 of these lamps and 4 flag poles.
On the lamp posts are details like these.
very pretty...
ReplyDeletewonderfully composed!
Beautiful lamp post, the details in the second photo are excellent.
ReplyDeleteWow, I wonder why I heven't visited Copenhagen so far! Excellent details!
ReplyDeletebeautiful lamps Chris - I love the details
ReplyDeleteCopenhagen seems to have some of the most fascinating lamps in the world! Though those dragon lamps (both the old one and the very modern one) are still my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI love this stuff! I get really tired of the lazy, utilitarian crap they put up around here...
ReplyDeleteLet your lamps be a light unto our path!
The details of the suits of armour are really good but I especially like the lion from the sqaure. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lamp posts. Good to know the history.
ReplyDeleteThe lamps are gorgeous and some of the best I've seen anywhere. A great way for a king to honor his queen.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, nice lamp poles. Not only the lamp details, but also the pole itself. Are the details in 2nd photo so small, I can't see them in the 1st photo.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. I'm sorry I've taken my time to answer, but as said before, my work keeps me a bit busy at the time.
ReplyDelete@Henny: These details are really small and on the base of the lamp, so that's why you can't see them on the first photo.
@Asta: There have been a bridge here since the lakes were created as part of the defenses around Copenhagen. The one before this one was actually not so much a bridge but more like two lanes on an earthern rampart. It couldn't take the increasing traffic so it was replaced with this one.
Amazing details, makes for a pretty city.
