Some more street art

Sometimes, walking around Copenhagen, one comes across amazing works of art done by street artists such as Tejn. I have come across his work mostly as paste-ups and have been very impressed with it. As someone who believes public spaces should not be bland and faceless it gladdened my heart to come across this piece on the Dronning Louises Bro near Nørrebro.

The pieces are called Lock On's and are made from reclaimed metal found in relevant areas with a link to certain events and then given a new lease of life.

In another blog I came across I saw there were more installations dotted around the city so I will go and search for them.

This is so brilliant! Formerly waste from areas in Copenhagen, welded back to life and ressurected as art with so much cutting edge-attitude. Respect! Saw one, and soon found more with a little help from the internet. Never heard about Lock On´s before. New branch in street art or is this already old school? Either way I really want one, but dont have the guts (and also think, it would be unappropriate to remove them from the urban spot the artist have selected. Might regret this morale later).
Tejn apparently secures his artworks properly with locks, but still they seem to disappear quite fast. There is one I absolutely love <3 at Nørrebro Station. It´s in a hard to reach-place, so hope it will stay for a long time. My one big wish is a chained Tejn at home. Iron sculpture or the real deal ;-) Thanks for the blog, Christopher / Ricco! Will drop by here from now on.

By the way. Now i´m looking, some of the olds are gone, but new pops up everywhere. There is a lock on, chained like Tejn does, also 2.hand metal, in Jagtvej 69, the lot where ungdomshuset was, with no name on it. Two rats climbing or playing. Anyone know something?

  3. I am fascinated by the amount of good quality street art coming from Copenhageners. Have a look here for more detail on the Lock-on project: http://www.tejnibyen.dk/Lock_on.htm

Thanks for the Tejn address, Ricco. So much material. Spended quite some quality time and did´nt get half way though his collection of works. Will definetely go to his next exhibition in Denmark, and do some shopping :-) I´m glad to feel that we can call Copenhagen a city with an active, original street art environment. Love the political issue in his Lock On´s, and the "urban edge". Another one of my favorites is Lints, who makes some weird paste up´s. So original and technical well conducted. Have you seen anything from him/her? ´Guess it´s a him. Kissmama you will find everywhere. Also very nice. How is the street art scene in South Africa/Johannesburg/Cape Town/your place?

    Peace!
