Deer me

 

No, it's not Dyrehaven but Ørestaden, even if these deer seem a bit misplaced. This is part of a new trend in Copenhagen. Instead of having a long and boring fence that begs the local youth to be creative with a spray can, artists are asked to use the fences as a big canvas. I haven't been able to figure out who is behind the deer on this fence, but it is nice. The deer progress from an open white field to a dark forest as you pass the Bella Center.

 

A new weapon against parking violation?

 

No, this is not the way Copenhagen municipality punish parking violators, though some would actually find it a rather good idea. It's a piece of street art by artist Magnus Fuhr, who was inspired by a photo of an accident in Grand Canyon and decided to try to recreate it on central Copenhagen. If art is a question of getting attention this sure qualifies. On the day it was made the police were called and they couldn't decide what to make of it, until the artist got out from his nearby hiding place and told them what it was all about. It still gets the attention from tourists and locals alike as they pass it, do a double take and whip out their cameras to get the proof.

 

Chiming man

An art work has appeared on the central square of Rådhuspladsen in Copenhagen; a figure made of colourful yarn connected to a bell and a peace sign. It's another art work by the street art group Streetheart, made as part of their Christmas Calendar happening with one new surprise each day of December until Christmas Eve. This one is from December 4th and is made by Tejn.

One of the paintings at the Galore Urban Art Festival at Toftegårds Plads in Valby was this huge one by Aryz of Spain. Here he is still working on the finishing touches of his artwork.

A boring square?

 

One of the largest squares in Copenhagen, Toftegårds Plads in Valby, looks more like a parking space without the cars than a place to meet or a place where things are happening. A few years ago it was used as a hub for the bus lines, but after that was changed nothing much has happened there. Or rather, there has been the big new redecorating that the square screams for, because a few things are happening there. At winter there's an ice skating rink there and in summer there's a flea market each weekend. And then there's a thing like the Galore Urban Art Festival last weekend. More than 200 Danish and international artists, music, graffiti and other art was the core of the festival.

 

More art on the green wall

 

As told yesterday the green walls around the metro construction sites in Copenhagen are being decorated with art and photographs. This pic is from the wall at Kongens Nytorv.

 

Some more street art

Sometimes, walking around Copenhagen, one comes across amazing works of art done by street artists such as Tejn. I have come across his work mostly as paste-ups and have been very impressed with it. As someone who believes public spaces should not be bland and faceless it gladdened my heart to come across this piece on the Dronning Louises Bro near Nørrebro.

The pieces are called Lock On's and are made from reclaimed metal found in relevant areas with a link to certain events and then given a new lease of life.

In another blog I came across I saw there were more installations dotted around the city so I will go and search for them.

Knitted

This decorated bicycle was spotted near Kongens Nytorv. Recently the street art of CPH Knitters and Knit Bitch has been adorning many public spaces and trees in them. Anyone going past Nørreport station would have come across their work.

I wonder if this bicycle belongs to one of them?

A walk of art

May was the month where the Danish town of Køge was transformed with a lot of street art. Walk This Way gave the public a chance to appreciate this art form over the summer. Some of it was interesting like this part called the Pink Army, and some of it was just weird.

With the construction of the new metro line in Copenhagen, there's a lot of constructions sites that need something to make them easier on the eye. On Kongens Nytorv in the centre the fence here has been decorated by the street-artist Shepard Fairey when he visited the city in August.

A Pink Sniper

When walking down one of the main streets in Køge south of Copenhagen, you might notice something that is out of place, like this pink sniper looking down the street from a roof. He is a member of the Pink Army, a street art installation that is part of the exhibition Walk This Way in Køge. Walk This Way is organized by KØS - the museum for art in public spaces and will run through summer. The next few days I'll show you some more photos from this event.
