More litter - more raving

Yesterday I raved again about the litter in the streets on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Today's photo shows you how one of the central parks, Kongens Have, looks like after a sunny day and evening. Even though there's lots of extra garbage cans, it seems like many really can't be bothered to put their trash in them. Tons of leftovers are removed here each weekend in the summer months and if you like to visit parks, wait until after noon as they're not done cleaning up before that. It's no wonder that many tourists find that Copenhagen is really dirty.

Tulips standing tall

In the park Kongens Have the tulips are standing tall. The gardeners in the parks of Copenhagen try to make sure that they have a big variety of flowers, so that the visitors always (in the warm months anyway) can enjoy flowers in full bloom.

Spring is here

 

Finally the spring has really hit Copenhagen. The trees are blossoming here in Kongens Have, the King's Garden so it's time to enjoy the outdoor life again.

 

A carpet of spring flowers

In the Copenhagen parks, like Kongens Have here, the spring flowers are on their way and the early ones are already covering the grass like a colourful carpet. In the background is the little palace of Rosenborg, where the crown jewels are kept.

Head to head

When out with the camera I often look for pics that are a bit unusual. This one from the park Kongens have, where the head of the statue of Hans Christian Andersen "meets" a passerby is one such photo.

Why be a crowdpleaser?

This tree from the park Kongens Have in Copenhagen decided to postpone autumn a bit. And why not go against the crowd?

A season of colours

It shouldn't come as a surprise for readers of this blog that autumn is my favourite season. The colours are plenty and the weather in Denmark changes almost by the minute, with sun like this one minute and drizzle the next. This photo is from the park Kongens Have, with the palace of Rosenborg in the background.

Autumn in Kongens Have

One of the places to be when autumn hits Copenhagen, is the park Kongens Have in the centre of the city. At the moment it's almost an explosion of colours.

A Queen

In the park Kongens Have (King's Garden) in Copenhagen this stately statue of Danish Queen Caroline Amalie (1776-1881) looks out over the rose garden. Married with King Christian VIII, she was barren, so the king's son of his first marriage, prince Frederik was the heir to the throne.

Copenhagen Art Festival

 

Friday the Copenhagen Art Festival 2012 opened and with a host of events and exhibitions lasting into the autumn, there's going to be something for everyone. Some of the exhibitions will be held in the public space, like this Running Woman in the central park of Kongens Have, and some will be held at the participating art galleries. Rosenborg Castle in Kongens Have is a renaissance castle built by King Christian IV, or rather planned, ordered and paid by him, in 1606 as a country summer cottage. Inside is the Crown Jewels and the Danish Crown Regalia along with the Royal Collection.

Lawman, politician and editor

Viggo Lauritz Bentheim Hørup was a Danish jurist, politician, editor and a minister in Denmark was a leading figure in the opposition in the second half of the 1800s.

The King's Garden

The oldest and most visited park in central Copenhagen is the Rosenborg Castle Gardens or in Danish Kongens Have (King's garden). This used to be the private gardens of King Christian IV and today plays host to temporary art exhibitions and other events such as concerts throughout the summer.

The "King" in "Konge"

The place Kongens Nytorv and Kongens Have both show geographical points with a royal link. Konge means king in Danish. Both these areas are close to the current royal winter palaces situated at Amalienborg a few hundred metres away.

Purple on green

The last of my macro shots for now is this one of a sea of purple on a bed of green, also from Kongens Have in Copenhagen.

All blurry

When photographing with the macro lens I like to try to get as much blur (bokeh) in the background as possible by using as low an f-number as the lens will give. This flower from Kongens Have made for a nice green background when shot from above, with the flower stalk trailing a blurry purple.

Dreamy

Taken from above these closed flowers look almost dreamy. The shot is from Kongens Have, taken with the 105mm Nikon macro lens.

I like my 105mm macro but use it way too rarely. This one is from some of the last flowers in Kongens Have this fall.

Misty Castle

When out and about in my own town of Copenhagen, I naturally wander past the same settings all through the year. I then notice how much they change with the seasons, like this mist covered Rosenborg Castle in Kongens Have (the King's Garden).
