Use it, please!

 

This oversized trash can is part of a campaign to get people in Copenhagen to use the trash cans instead of littering. I hope it's going to work because, as I've told about before, the city has become increasingly dirtier over the last ten years. And the main reason is that people just don't seem to care about their trash. Somebody else will pick it up, right? Well, yes it's going to be picked up eventually by the municipality but it costs the taxpayers (that's all of us, remember) a bundle each year just because a lot of people, young and old, can't be bothered to walk a few extra steps to the nearest trash can.

 

Time lapse again

 

My latest time lapse from Copenhagen is this one. Taken on Constitution Day, which in Denmark is the 5th of June, it starts very symbolic at the Danish Parliament Folketinget at Christiansborg Palace with the statue of King Frederik VII in the foreground. He was the king that decided to give Denmark a Constitution based on democracy in 1849. The rest of the time lapse will take you through many of the squares in the old park of the city.

 

Sprouting water

A sure sign that spring is here, is when the water in the fountains start running again. Here it's one of the frogs on the Stork Fountain that is gushing water.

Heavy on equipment

On the square of Amagertorv on Strøget in Copenhagen you'll find bands like this performing. No mere sax or acoustic guitar and a loud voice, but a regular band with loudspeakers, microphones and all the other paraphernalia. Sometimes they're good (this one was) and sometimes they're just loud.

Shaking our booty

During the weekend of Pentecost in 1982, Copenhagen saw the emergence of its first carnival. Since then, the carnival has become an integral part of Pentecost in Copenhagen. This means that this year the carnival is celebrating its 30th anniversary. You can see the impressive carnival parade at Copenhagen Carnival. The parade starts at Højbro Plads (Amagertorv) at 10 a.m. and will go through Strøget to Rådhuspladsen. The parade is expected to end at around 3 p.m. Copenhagen Carnival 2012 is taking place from the 25-27th of May in Fælledparken. -RS

Mama Rosa

On the pedestrian street of Strøget in Copenhagen there's a lot of fancy shops, cafés and restaurants. Near Amagertorv a Latin restaurant called Mama Rosa caters for the tourists that want to try Mexican, Italian or Spanish cousine. What most tourist doesn't see if they just follow the crowds on Strøget is the wall of paintings at the back street of the restaurant. These wall paintings add a true Latin atmosphere to the area.

Indian Elephant

On Amagertorv this Indian inspired elephant sits with it's back to the Stork Fountain.

Meeting Place

A popular meeting place in Copenhagen is at the square Amagertorv in the pedestrian area of Strøget. Usually a bit more crowded than this, it can at times be rather difficult to spot each other here.
