Closed for the season

 

The tour boats of Frederiksberg Have has been closed for the season, so if you fancy being rowed around the canals of the park you'll have to wait until the spring. Oh, and summer is officially over as the clocks has been set an hour back this night.

Another place in the Copenhagen Harbour with atmosphere is squeezed in between the H.C.Ørated Power Plant and the new residences at Kalvebod Brygge.

Traffic in the harbour

Copenhagen Harbour is still has a lot of traffic, but it has largely been changed from working boats and ships to pleasure boats, sightseeing boats and small crafts like this kayak.

Not only streamlined

Even though Copenhagen harbour has been under development for a decade or more, there's still areas that doesn't look streamlined at all. One of these is the end of Teglholmen where old hulks, boats rebuilt into houseboats and work boats of all kinds is still allowed to be moored. Hopefully the powers-to-be will still let them be there to keep the atmosphere, even after the area has been changed from industrial wasteland into a glass and concrete desert.

A pier for the gulls

Some of the private piers near Dragør seems made more for the sake of the gulls then the sailors. On this one it seems like they have taken permanent residence.

Mooring

With about 57.000 pleasure crafts in Denmark, mooring space is at a premium, so some have their own little piers to moor at. And the gulls doesn't mind either.

Optimists

Sailing is an old tradition in Denmark, mainly out of necessity in the old days before bridges and ferries made it easy to travel between the 443 islands of Denmark. Mostly used for recreational purposes, many people still have a sailing vessel and a lot kids learn to sail in a young age. For most of those kids, the Optimist dinghy is their first boat.

Entering the Harbour

If you go to Copenhagen harbour, you'll notice that this still is a place with a lot of boats and ships, and some of them are beautiful old ones like this one. Sadly most of the merchant shipping has been relocated elsewhere, so what you see in the old parts of the harbour will usually be pleasure boats, houseboats and the occasional gem like this red one. In some parts of the harbour you'll not even see any boats but only long stretches of empty wharfs, as the new residents in the renovated warehouses and newly built residential areas insists on peace, quiet and privacy.

The Harbour

When summer sets in Copenhagen harbour is a busy place, lots of ships and boats are on the water, weaving this way and that. It's said that half the Danish population either owns a summer cottage or a boat, and I believe that when I see the harbour at summertime. This one is called Crocodillen and is owned by the boat guild Halvtolv (Half past eleven).

A quiet ride
