Selective colour

 

With the iPhone selecting colours have become really easy. Just snap a photo or import it from somewhere else, open it in one of the many apps that can be used to select colours, select the area you want to have colour and the rest will be monochrome, and then just remember to save it or export it to your favourite social media. This one was taken with the iPhone in a park near my home and edited in Colorblast.

This lion cub will not be bullied by its older aunt. When the lions got cubs there's often something going on in the enclosure in Copenhagen Zoo.

Playing in the snow

Even though the weather in Copenhagen might not be their favourite, the lion cubs in Copenhagen Zoo seems to enjoy a playing in the snow.

Breaking through

 

Even if the calendar is telling us that it's spring, the weather in Denmark sure don't agree. These winter aconites are struggling to get through the frozen earth and a light covering of snow, so there're some signs that spring might be coming at some point, but Father Frost will be back with a vengeance in the next few days as a blizzard seems to be heading towards us. High winds and up to 30 cm of snow will make getting around in Copenhagen interesting Tuesday.

 

Colours in the snow

Winter is perfect for black-and-white photography, but I like colours too, so when out and about I try to capture a bit of both.

Getting creative

Winter is a good time to get creative with your camera. Why not go for some detail shots of how the snow covers trees and bushes?

Camouflage

The hooded gulls are not exactly invisible, even in the winter dress, as they rest and walks on the snow of the park Frederiksberg Have Frederiksberg Garden).

Run, Zebra, run

 

I bet this zebra really longs for some change in the weather, even if it seems a bit perky in the snow here in Copenhagen Zoo. But summer is only a dream here as winter still bites hard. A spell of warmer weather should hit later today, so maybe she's just celebrating in advance. Or heading for cover.

 

Break the rules

 

Never turn your lens toward the sun people say, but sometimes you get nice photographs breaking the rules. This one, taken with an iPhone at Vestre Cemetery, was one of those times.

 

Winter is back

 

Winter is back in Copenhagen, bringing a nice cover of fresh snow over all. And making bw photography easy again. This one I took yesterday with my iPhone at Vestre Cemetery a few minutes walk from my work. I got a few good ones using my Nikon too as it's (nearly) always with me, even when working.

 

Is winter coming back?

As told earlier we had a spell of winter in Copenhagen a few weeks ago. Even though it's gone and the weather has turned more like autumn than winter, here's a pic from the covering of snow we got. This one is from Valbyparken.

Angles and lines

As some readers might have noticed, I love to use this kind of angle in my photos of paths and roads as the lines lead the viewers eyes into the photo. This one is from a winter path in Søndermarken.

Behind the trees

Behind the trees in the park Søndermarken in Copenhagen lies this little yellow house, very cozy dressed in white. This is not a residence but a restroom.

Brrrr....

Sometimes it's not fun being a duck in Copenhagen. This mallard seems to a bit tired of the cold weather here, but winter has really only begun.

Traditional

Some of the Christmas decorations in Copenhagen are actually quite nice, even for someone who gets a bit annoyed with Christmas when the first signs appears in the stores in late October. These bundles of oats are one of those examples.

Near home

 

Just outside my door is a nice little park called Vigerslevparken with this little creek called Harrestrup Å. And with a coating of white it looks perfect.

 

A bike called Winther

When winter hits Copenhagen the number of people using their bicycles drop the first few days, until the bicycle lanes are clear and dry again.

Half a bench

With a 70-300mm lens it's not always possible to get all of your motive in the frame, so here I opted for just half of the bench. If it's good or just different is for the viewer to decide, but I quite like it.

And winter came

Yesterday Copenhagen got its first large snowfall so it was a nice opportunity to break out the new Nikon D800 and start getting acquainted with it. Well, I actually started a few days ago, but there's still quite a bit of ground to cover before I'm proficient on it. This photo is from the park Frederiksberg Have.

Early Sunset

As you might recall from your geography lessons in school, the sun sets rather early the further north you get during the winter. In Ljusdal in Sweden that time is about 2.30pm. Good thing that all the snow at least makes it more bright even at night.
