More litter - more raving

Yesterday I raved again about the litter in the streets on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Today's photo shows you how one of the central parks, Kongens Have, looks like after a sunny day and evening. Even though there's lots of extra garbage cans, it seems like many really can't be bothered to put their trash in them. Tons of leftovers are removed here each weekend in the summer months and if you like to visit parks, wait until after noon as they're not done cleaning up before that. It's no wonder that many tourists find that Copenhagen is really dirty.

In a snail shell

Long-time readers of this blog knows that I like my macro lens. And with a park within easy reach of most people in Copenhagen, there's no excuse to get out there and get some nice pics. This snail crossed my path in Valbyparken and became my unwilling model for a few minutes.

Tulips standing tall

In the park Kongens Have the tulips are standing tall. The gardeners in the parks of Copenhagen try to make sure that they have a big variety of flowers, so that the visitors always (in the warm months anyway) can enjoy flowers in full bloom.

The right place for the spring

 

Copenhagen Botanical Garden is the right place to be to see the spring unfold. After a major makeover during the last could of years, it is a park with a lot of nooks and crannies to have some quiet time in in the middle of the busy city.

 

Spring is here

 

Finally the spring has really hit Copenhagen. The trees are blossoming here in Kongens Have, the King's Garden so it's time to enjoy the outdoor life again.

 

A carpet of spring flowers

In the Copenhagen parks, like Kongens Have here, the spring flowers are on their way and the early ones are already covering the grass like a colourful carpet. In the background is the little palace of Rosenborg, where the crown jewels are kept.

Selective colour

 

With the iPhone selecting colours have become really easy. Just snap a photo or import it from somewhere else, open it in one of the many apps that can be used to select colours, select the area you want to have colour and the rest will be monochrome, and then just remember to save it or export it to your favourite social media. This one was taken with the iPhone in a park near my home and edited in Colorblast.

 

It's allowed

Denmark is a society tightly regulated by rules and regulations. So sometimes it's easier to tell what is allowed instead of what isn't. Usually loose dogs are not allowed whether on the streets or in the parks (which is ignored by many dog owners), but in some parks there's an area where you can let your dog loose to play. Just please remember to pick up anything they might otherwise leave around for others to step in.

Boom

 

The last of the Malta photos I'll show you before I go back to showing pics from Copenhagen, is this one. You've already seen the one taken a third of a second before where the canon at the saluting battery at Upper Barakka Gardens showed a red fireball. This cloud of gunsmoke was almost as impressive when captured. I do like the Nikon D800 even though the frame rate per second is not quite as good as my Nikon D300, but it was good enough for this sequence.

 

Going astray

Going astray when visiting a place can sometimes lead you to places, that you wouldn't have seen otherwise. This is one of these places in Valletta. After a scary walk along a road with heavy traffic and no sidewalk, we stumbled upon this place; a hidden park that could use a bit of renovation called Sa Maison Garden. It's obviously not a place that see a lot of tourists.

Walking the dog

With snow covering the ground you can really get some different shots of people and animals. The white background here almost make it seem like the lady is walking here dog in the clouds.

Hunting lodge or palace?

The Eremitage Palace in Dyrehaven north of Copenhagen is actually a hunting lodge for the royals. It was built  in 1734-36 by the architect Lauritz de Thurah for king Christian VI. Here the dinners and other social occasions could be held after the parforce hunting. That is still it's function today. 

Feeding the deer

With so many deer in the Dyrehaven north of Copenhagen, it's necessary to feed them in winter for them to survive. Hay, straw and beets are on the menu at the feeding stations.

Different sizes

Saturday, which seems to have been the last day with arctic temperatures in Copenhagen, I went to the deer park Dyrehaven just north of the city. Here you get the deer in all sizes, from small sikas to large red deer, and in all ages too. This fallow deer fawn seemed to enjoy the winter weather as it crossed the path to get out of my way.

Heron in flight

If you want to take a few shots of birds in flight and don't want to get too far away from civilization, the park Frederiksberg Have is a perfect place in winter as a lot of birds congregate around the lake. Here you can also practice your panning technique with ducks, seagulls and gray herons.

Winter is back

 

Winter is back in Copenhagen, bringing a nice cover of fresh snow over all. And making bw photography easy again. This one I took yesterday with my iPhone at Vestre Cemetery a few minutes walk from my work. I got a few good ones using my Nikon too as it's (nearly) always with me, even when working.

 

Is winter coming back?

As told earlier we had a spell of winter in Copenhagen a few weeks ago. Even though it's gone and the weather has turned more like autumn than winter, here's a pic from the covering of snow we got. This one is from Valbyparken.

Angles and lines

As some readers might have noticed, I love to use this kind of angle in my photos of paths and roads as the lines lead the viewers eyes into the photo. This one is from a winter path in Søndermarken.

Behind the trees

Behind the trees in the park Søndermarken in Copenhagen lies this little yellow house, very cozy dressed in white. This is not a residence but a restroom.

Work of art

 

Some of the new pavements in Copenhagen is actually almost a work of art in itself. This one is from the harbour front at Strandgade where a new urban park has been constructed. And before you ask, yes, I am trying to ignore the fact that this is the first day of the Christmas month:-)
