Here, there and everywhere

 

I spent Saturday testing the GoPro Hero3 cam that I told you about yesterday. And I did really get around; Amaliehaven, Gefion Fountain, Frederiksberg Have and Copenhagen Zoo. But I think I got a nice result, even if Windows Moviemaker and I will never be friends.

Getting creative

Winter is a good time to get creative with your camera. Why not go for some detail shots of how the snow covers trees and bushes?

I am flying

The grey herons seem a bit clumsy when they're spreading their wings but then they do have a big wingspan, up to 2 meters of feathers.

On thin ice

This young hooded seagull have found some thin ice to stand on. It seems to be contemplating taking a dive in the could water of the lake in Frederiksberg Garden.

The grey herons

The grey herons of Frederiksberg Have doesn't look like like they enjoy the winter weather as they stand on the frozen brink of the lake. Maybe they're wishing they had flown for warmer climate this winter.

Camouflage

The hooded gulls are not exactly invisible, even in the winter dress, as they rest and walks on the snow of the park Frederiksberg Have Frederiksberg Garden).

Walking the dog

With snow covering the ground you can really get some different shots of people and animals. The white background here almost make it seem like the lady is walking here dog in the clouds.

And winter came

Yesterday Copenhagen got its first large snowfall so it was a nice opportunity to break out the new Nikon D800 and start getting acquainted with it. Well, I actually started a few days ago, but there's still quite a bit of ground to cover before I'm proficient on it. This photo is from the park Frederiksberg Have.

Where?

These three hooded crows seemed a bit confused as they looked to all sides while sitting on the railing. Maybe they had lost something?

Getting ready for winter

In Copenhagen you can still see the red squirrel in parks and gardens. At the moment they're busy preparing for winter, making caches of nuts and seeds. Grey squirrels have aaparently been sighted in Denmark but they're not a threat yet.

Closed for the season

 

The tour boats of Frederiksberg Have has been closed for the season, so if you fancy being rowed around the canals of the park you'll have to wait until the spring. Oh, and summer is officially over as the clocks has been set an hour back this night.

Another pic from Frederiksberg Have. With the canals you really get colours everywhere, even on an overcast day.

Frederiksberg Have

Another great place to take a stroll in Copenhagen in any season is the park Frederiksberg Have. The park was planned by King Frederik IV alongside the Frederiksberg Palace, and now houses both the remnants of a baroque garden and the characteristics of a romantic garden. There are several lakes, canals and exotic trees and shrubs in the garden, which is very popular, especially in summer.

A relaxing spot

 

Another of my favorite spots for relaxing is this one in the middle of the park Frederiksberg Have. With its soothing sound of falling water and relative peace and quiet (when the local kindergartens are not having a nearby picnic) it's perfect for having a light lunch, reading a good book or just sitting and contemplating life.

 

That's runners for you!

While walking through Søndermarken park near Valby and Frederiksberg I was astonished to see these runners who seem to have started out feeling cold and gradually warmed up but then had to strip down and carry their warm clothes.

May I never feel the need for such extreme exercise...

Like a fish out of the water

The Copenhagen Zoo is situated in Frederiksberg and is located on just over 11 hectares next to Frederiksberg Slot. It was founded in 1859 and is one of the oldest zoos in Europe.

It is the only zoo outside of Australia that has Tasmanian Devils in captivity and also has rare species such as the Okapi, Musk Ox and Amur Leopard.

In this photograph one can see the zebra in winter time with the characteristic Zoo Tower from 1905, an observation tower built entirely out of wood in the background.

Serfdom

Just inside the main entrance to the Copenhagen park Frederiksberg Have is this statue of King Frederik VI of Denmark. The thing he is remembered best for is the abbolishment of the serfdom in 1788 before he was crowned. But during his rein, Denmark lost Norway to Sweden at the end of the Napoleonic Wars and Copenhagen was bombarded by the the British who also "confiscated" the Danish navy.

Time to skate

With the early winter in Copenhagen, people has rushed to dust off their old skates and find places to use them. As the lakes are still unsafe to use, the answer is the artificial and free public skating rings, that has been built at some of the squares. This one is just in front of the park Frederiksberg Garden and it's a popular one, so if you want to be able to move at speed here, you need to be here early.

Victim of a snowball fight?

The statues in the Royal Danish Garden Society's Garden near the park Frederiksberg Have look like they have been in a vicious snowball fight. This garden is one of the hidden gems in Copenhagen, even though it's right at the entrance of the park, but many just pass it, maybe because they think it's private.

Stay safe

The Grey herons from yesterday not only have to fight to stay warm in the Danish winter, they also have their problems with keeping steady on their feet when landing. This one from Frederiksberg Have did keep upright though.
