Tulips standing tall

In the park Kongens Have the tulips are standing tall. The gardeners in the parks of Copenhagen try to make sure that they have a big variety of flowers, so that the visitors always (in the warm months anyway) can enjoy flowers in full bloom.

A carpet of spring flowers

In the Copenhagen parks, like Kongens Have here, the spring flowers are on their way and the early ones are already covering the grass like a colourful carpet. In the background is the little palace of Rosenborg, where the crown jewels are kept.

A Queen

In the park Kongens Have (King's Garden) in Copenhagen this stately statue of Danish Queen Caroline Amalie (1776-1881) looks out over the rose garden. Married with King Christian VIII, she was barren, so the king's son of his first marriage, prince Frederik was the heir to the throne.

Rosenborg Castle in Kongens Have is a renaissance castle built by King Christian IV, or rather planned, ordered and paid by him, in 1606 as a country summer cottage. Inside is the Crown Jewels and the Danish Crown Regalia along with the Royal Collection.

Purple on green

The last of my macro shots for now is this one of a sea of purple on a bed of green, also from Kongens Have in Copenhagen.

Dreamy

Misty Castle

When out and about in my own town of Copenhagen, I naturally wander past the same settings all through the year. I then notice how much they change with the seasons, like this mist covered Rosenborg Castle in Kongens Have (the King's Garden).

Winter in the park

Today's photo is another one from Saturday's snowfall in Copenhagen. With winter still very much in evidence, this is how most of Denmark looks like on this the last day of autumn. The photo was taken in Kongens Have, the park next to the Rosenborg Castle.

And Winter Came

Yesterday's post told you about the difficulties of getting around Copenhagen due to the construction of the new metro-line. Today the difficulties are caused by nature, as King Winter decided to pay us an extremely early visit. And as five snowflakes falling in Copenhagen is equal to chaos in the traffic, the weather of this weekend has ground much of the country and of the city of Copenhagen to a crawl. Even the traditional Christmas lunches at the firms was supposedly dull affairs this weekend, the police reported. The photo here show how some at least made the best of the snow by taking a stroll in the King's Garden (Kongens Have).

Sun and clouds

Autumn is the season for changing weather in Denmark, as can be seen on this photo from the King's Garden (Kongens Have) in Copenhagen. The sun is shining on the park, but in the background black clouds of rain are coming.

Copper lion

Two copper lions flank the entrance from the King's Garden to Rosenborg Castle as a symbol of the Kings power. They are the originals from the time of King Christian IV. They are rarely noticed as people pass by on their way to the crown jewels but they are in my opinion gems themselves.

The Horse and the Lion

This statue is an old one; it was modeled in 1617 and cast in bronze in 1624 by Peter Husen. Until 1647 it was in Glückstadt and it was then placed in the King's Garden between the two ring rider columns. It's almost an exact copy of an antique statue from Capitolium in Rome.

The King's Garden is a really nice place if you like crowds. Especially in the summertime it's a place for people to relax, get some sun, have a picnic or just enjoy a good book. A playground, a little café and a rose garden give some variety. Here is also Rosenborg Castle which is a pleasure palace build by the King Christian IV, Copenhagens great builder. Nowadays it's mainly a place to keep the crown jewels.

Fight with a snake

In the King's Garden there are statues aplenty. This one is a favorite of mine mainly because of the animation of the characters. It's called Fight with a Snake and was made by Thomas Brock in 1881. Exactly what myth it refers to I've been unable to uncover. If you have a clue then please leave a comment:-)
