The Colours of Autumn

What I love about autumn is the fiery colours that change from day to day until the leaves are gone from the trees. And in Copenhagen you don't have to leave the city at all, as the parks are numerous. This photo is from Søndermarken just across the Copenhagen Zoo.

Red Deer

The red deer in Dyrehaven is one of my favourite animals to watch as you can get pretty close without disturbing them.

Out in the open in Dyrehaven the red deer where merely shapes in the grey mist.

A Grey World

The morning mist in Dyrehaven changed everything to a world of grey, where shapes could be sensed rather than seen.

Breakfast in the forrest

In Dyrehaven north of Copenhagen this roe-deer was a bit surprised to be interrupted in the breakfast by a clicking sound.

Swamp

The mist over this little area of swamp in Dyrehaven makes for a beautiful photo-op. Just be careful where you put down your foot as this is just as wet as it seems.

Misty

My series of posts of autumn starts a misty Sunday morning at daybreak at one of my favourite places; the former Royal hunting ground of Dyrehaven just north of Copenhagen. This is a time and place for some real peace and quiet as the forest wakes up to greet the day. The mist this morning creates shapes and movement that makes this seem almost like a fairytale.

Stairs

Inside the keep of the Trakai Island Castle be prepared for a lot of wooden stairs. In the summer heat they might be a bit of a challenge for many.

This is the last of my Lithuanian posts for now. Autumn has arrived in Denmark, so from tomorrow I'll show a bit of that. And after those I might take you further on my summer travels.

A Church in the Castle

Inside the Trakai Island Castle is this little church, lighted by both little windows and great chandeliers.

The Keep

The insideof Trakai Island Castle is now a museum showing the history of the castle and the town of Trakai.

Trakai Island Castle

Only 28km from Vilnius is the historic town of Trakai, a popular tourist destination with the reconstructed Trakai Island Castle as the main attraction. The castle was built in the 14th Century AD to defend the area from the Teutonic Knights. It was demolished in 1655 during a war with Muscovy with the ruins remaining a historic landmark. Between the World Wars reconstruction of the castle was begun but it wasn't finished until the early 1990's.
