The jewellery stores on the pedestrian street of Strøget in Copenhagen attract some unsavoury characters. Usually they try daytime robberies but in this case they tried to hack their way in through the armoured window. They didn't succeed, maybe because this street has people passing by at all hours.
A few steps from the scene of yesterday's photo I stumbled on this; a guy passed out on the city's most busy square. Again not an unusual sight, even though the temperature that morning was just below freezing. And it didn't seem to matter to the people bypassing him.
This is a more and more common sight in the, in the eyes of the Danes anyway, world-renowned welfare state of Denmark. The homeless, the poor and the lost is becoming a standard fixture of the streets of the larger cities. Most people in Copenhagen choose to ignore that fact, even though they just have to open their eyes every day to see it. Luckily a number of private welfare organisations have taken over, where the state has failed. And this happens in a state that has one of the largest taxations in the world.
Even though I've walked past this building many times, last week was the first time I actually noticed the figure of the dog that seemed to be trapped in the stone. That only shows how many details we miss every day when we walk around our own city.
Public art in Copenhagen is not always appreciated by the public, as this photo shows. The garbage can might be considered funny by some, but who in their right mind would think that the graffiti tags are OK? That is just plain vandalism.
The busker here has sought shelter from the sudden winter while playing his sax. The shelter he uses is one of the oldest dormitories of Copenhagen, Regensen, which was originally built in 1623.
During the winter weather of the weekend, this character decided to use an umbrella for cover, not that it mattered much. Can you guess who is behind the umbrella?
In the last couple of weeks I've shown you a bunch of photos of bicyclists in Copenhagen, that didn't think the rules of traffic applied to them. Fortunately there's still a lot of law-abiding bicyclists here, so even though all of those photos was taken during a single hour, it was at one of the busiest places in Copenhagen and scores of other bicyclists went by while doing nothing wrong at all. This lady on her tricycle with flowers was one of those last.
Another young man in Copenhagen on a bicycle that is obviously not built for him. With cell phone in hand and headphones covering the ears, he might have some trouble reacting to the traffic around him.
It's not only young people in Copenhagen, that has little respect for the traffic laws. Many elderly ones also seem to think, that the rules don't apply to them.

Another young lady more concentrated on her texting than her bicycle driving in Copenhagen. I pity the pedestrian, who gets in her way here. I know that women pride themselves for their ability to multitask, but this is dangerous!
A lot of the bicyclists in Copenhagen should be avoided at all costs, and this guy seems to be one of them. Driving through a busy pedestrian crossing while on the phone is an accident bound to happen. And then I get a bit suspicious when seeing a guy on a small lady's bicycle; I wonder if he borrowed it from his girlfriend or "borrowed" it from someone else. Maybe this is one of the 79.397 bicycles stolen last year in Denmark.
