The Blue Planet

 

One of Copenhagen's newest attractions is the Blue Planet, Denmark's Aquarium, in Kastrup near Copenhagen Airport. The building itself is shaped like a whirlwind and inside it's packed with hot and warm aquariums, a bird cliff, a tropical area, sealions and a big tank with sharks, mantas and barracudas. There's enough to see for young and old for a few hours. But get there on weekdays and late in the afternoon, as it is packed with people in the weekends.

On fixed times throughout the day, you can watch the animals of the Copenhagen Zoo being fed and activated. And the zookeepers will give you a lot of information about the animals, their natural behavior and how to handle them in the zoo. Except that it's in Danish only, so tourists here will have a hard time following the action. On this photo the zookeeper is telling the audience about the sea lions.

A high-speed performance

The sea lions of Copenhagen Zoo seems to like the attention they get from the spectators, as they (the sea lions, that is) play in their basin. This one made sure that I got it from the right angle by swimming at high speed right at me, before diving again.

A playing sea lion

This sea lion cub had a field day with a couple of sticks. Up he went and down again a number of times until they all were in the water instead of on the rocky ledge. He probably doesn't like the large sign saying:"Do not throw sticks or pine cones to the sea lions".
