Flying low

The owl from yesterday did perform well for the camera at the birds of prey show. This time it seems to be headed for yours truly. It missed by a wide margin; there were even room for a telephone book between us.

Duck! No, Owl!

I've told you about this event before, the birds of prey show at the Copenhagen Zoo. Even though I've seen it a couple of times before, it still amaze me that they can get the birds to perform like this on command. Here an owl is sent over the heads of the spectators to the falconer behind them.

Owls looking

These two curious owls followed our every move when we visited Järvzoo, even though they are night owls. They are great grey owls of which Sweden's got between 400 and 3500 depending on time of year and how much food they've got. Their main dish is small rodents like mice, voles, hares and the like. In Sweden it's endangered mainly due to loss of areas to nest because of intensive logging.

Birds of prey

Several times a week the Copenhagen Zoo has a show with birds of prey, where the public get close to the birds and are shown how they are trained. An excellent show if you happen to be there at the right time. At this show two birds were shown, an owl and a Harris Hawk. On the last photo the owl and its falconer are staring at a third and wild bird, probably a buzzard, which happened to fly over the nearby park during the show.
