Nature at the gate

If you live in the southern part of Ørestaden in Copenhagen, this is view you can get on a daily basis. Nature is literally at the gate, as Vestamager unfolds before your eyes.

Nature is just around the corner

This might not be true nature as defined by an area left alone by man, but it sure feels, smells and look the part. Just south of the newly developed area of Ørestaden in Copenhagen on the island of Amager is an area called Vestamager. With wide-open fields, meadows and small clusters of trees and bushes this reclaimed land is a popular area to go to if you need something green and unkempt around you.

A few minutes from the city centre

 

Only a few minutes by the metro from the centre of Copenhagen is this gem; West Amager, an area of reclaimed seabed used for keeping cattle and sheep on grass and for a few hundred years as an army shooting range. Now you'll still find some cattle and sheep there but the army has retreated and the area is open to the public. And it's being used by a lot of the locals to walk the dog, for the daily jogging or bike ride or just to get a bit away from the notice of the city. Here the only noise is the bird calls and every few minutes a low flying airplane from the nearby airport.

8tallet, the figure 8 in Danish, is a residence in the area of Ørestaden in Copenhagen. The building by architect BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) won the award for world's best residence at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona 2011. With a fantastic view over Amager Fælled combined with really nice architecture I guess this wouldn't be the worst place to live in Copenhagen, if you can afford the price.
